What a lovely morning!

Been out of the office all week, so the one day I get to cycle in the weather is beautiful! :D

And to think this morning I was lying in my nice warm bed thinking shall I? shant I? Managed to cram everything I need in my rucksack, just, with a bit of squeezing here and there, and then it was out into the bright crisp morning...Ahh...great light over Richmond bridge, hardly a breeze in the air except the stem on my breath.

South circular all clogged up, from Sheen road...solid traffic, slowed the commute down a bit with stopping and starting, sunglasses steaming up every time I stopped. More stationary traffic, clipped a wing mirror, back up apologised profusely and flicked it back, woman in car smilied and said "don't worry" I was expecting a torrent of abuse, so it was a really nice surprise...Found the cause of the traffic, a car on it's roof off upper Richmond Road on Queens Ride, got caught up in the police tape...blooming rucksack!! ...Onto Puntey and away! Up kings road, down to Chelsea Embankment and the first sight of the wheel glowing in the light...nearly there...Abingdon street still closed, across the bridge and up to Waterloo, the wheel is now poking above the buildings, round waterloo roundabout and left to see the bright white wheel dead ahead....and then it's behind me asI follow the river along to work.

Quick shower, feel on top of the world and I've found somewhere to hang my camel bladder under my desk....It's friday, the weekend is almost here.

It's a GOOD DAY! Enjoy it!

Sorry for breaking the norm and posting a happy post, but we're all too quick to moan when something goes wrong, so I thought I'd do something about it...Commuting isn't full of doom and gloom, rljs, white vans, pedestrians and taxis getting in our way...sometimes it's the best start to the morning, lets not forget that

  • Yes it's beautiful. Coming through Hyde Park is lovely. Even smiled at another cyclist which is rare in this 'every man for himself' city...

Had the same thoughts myself this morning whilst cycling in.

The sun was rising over the Cheshire hills and the fields had a slight mist on them, a truly great moment to be on the bike, was almost spiritual

    Happy Days........
  • Snooks,

Today is good enough for a couple of laps of RP on the way home!

Did it last night and it was lovely, seemed to be less cars and more deer than usual. Now that's the right way round!

Same here -- it was a bit chilly, but otherwise beautiful morning! Even all the people in the cars seemed nice and in good mood!

Dunno about a couple of laps on the way home!! I usually try to get round RP at least once a week, but I like to do it "out of hours" when I get back from a job early or first thing in the morning...Sat and sundays are a bit of a no no....espesh "off road"...would rather jump in the car and head south, but haven't done that since the Foot and Mouth turned up on one of my localish ride :(

I'm sure on other websites - people are complaining re careless ( & carless) commuters riding so carelessly as to hit car wing mirrors and think an apology suffices and then riding so carelessly they get entangled in police tape. They are so desperate to shave a second off their journey they can't wait till it is safe to pass by....

  • A lap or two of RP is a must for me during my lunch break today.

Commute this morning was nice. The joy I felt as I passed, at speed, queues of traffic from Hammersmith Bridge all the way to Roehampton.
How cagers in London keep their sanity I do not know??
  • Yeah great commute this morning. It was tough to get up after yesterdays reps but so so worth it. Those mist filled Worcestershire valleys with the sun breaking through were a lovely sight. I would've missed all that if I'd driven down the M5 instead...

So you're "sure" that on other websites peeps are complaining eh? Just how sure are you? If you can post a link I'll happily go and explain :)

I was in no hurry (my work isn't strict about when I come in and when I leave), I don't have a "time" and if I did it would have been pointless this morning, to clarify. My hand on my handle bar caught her mirror as a waddled betwen cars at a junction, I wasn't going fast, just scooting my bike through a narrow gap caused by a car trying to filter in I was looking to miss the guys bumper, but caught the ladies wing mirror. Felt it, heard it, backed up. She smiled, and was happy that I scooted backwards and flipped it back...no harm done, not even to my fingers.

The road where the crash was, was closed to cars, I got off my bike and walked along the pavement, and even asked a police man if it was alright to walk down..which it was, so I did...The WPC at the crushed car said I could ride on the right, so I did...the police tape was to stop traffic going up the road from Putney. A gaggle of cyclist ahead manged to duck under it...I remembered I had my pack on, but didn't duck low enough  , I thought I would catch so I went through slower than a snail with a bad foot, felt it catch, tried to untangle, tried again still caught, backed up some more, still caught, found the tape was caught between my pump and the top of my pack, un hitched it, cycled away :D

All was safe to pass by, just forgot my pump was stick out the top of my rucksack...didn't break the tape, and I'm sure it gave a bit of amusement to the drivers who were in a world of going nowhere.

Goes to show that no matter how good your day starts there's always someone trying to stop you enjoying it...ho hum :D

  • I ended up taking the diversion to avoid that incident on Queen's Ride. I saw the police tape and thought it looked serious. The diversion was pretty chocka though.

Later on, by Parson's Green there was a cyclist down. I didn't stop as there were quite a few others there, but the cyclist was lying on his stomach holding his head up which was bleeding over the pavement. There didn't seem to be any cars involved.

Looking forward to the tailwind back home this evening. Yesterday was a brilliant ride back.

Spoke snapped on the ride in today - kinda stifled my enjoyment as I spent the rest of the ride anxiously glancing down at my rear wheel to see the level of disaster this spelt. Second time in a month so looks like new wheel time.

    Did I ever say otherwise?

I never said anything about his character- merely commented on how other people may interpret a situation
I'm not saying either interpretation is right or wrong

    I wouldn't say I'm lovely :D and yes I know I shouldn't have clipped the woman's wing mirror...I felt guilty, I did something I shouldn't have, so I went back to apologise...

agree, the weather's pretty special at the moment, especially after the summer we've had. Chilly in the morning, but lovely, clear and sunny.Brings a big grin to my face as I pedal along.Seems to bring the wildlife out as well, deer, squirrels, rabbits and loads of little 4 legged things scurrying across the road.

Let out of school early! (Well that was how it felt when the boss said we could leave at 4:30 :D )

Uneventfull ride home, good, but nothing to write about. Mind you when I got back to Richmond it was still a good day, so I took the long cut along the river in the evening light...Priceless

Nice ride in on Friday - day 5 of the new job based in Didsbury (S. Manchester) ..... have my own office, so shoes and deo etc get left there and work pants Mon-Fri - get changed in the office (have a window blind). OK no showers, but baby wipes work a treat. Bike locked up outside with loads of others on the campus - looks like I'm the only one with a Gold standard lock (I use two locks both gold standard - 1 x D and 1 x rather heavy chain).

Slightly chilly, but rather pleasant - rather warm in the afternoon though !
