hello. iv decided to just fit the new spoke myself for now. but was lloking into possible wheel builds on merlin cycles. talking to a friend who mentioned xt hubs arent great. whats the view on them.
my current shimano ones have been ok albeit not very well sealed.
if they a bit iffy what are good choices with pro 2s being out my price range.
looking at £80 rear wheel build cost
thanks

For the money, XT hubs are the best you can get. Got to remember they are not the price of a Hope Pro 2! But they are tough, use good bearings and races, are easily adjustable and servicable and with minimal TLC will last years. I'd rather have them than Pro2 TBH.

they just need some more grease adding from new. (unless shimsno has fixed that problem).

    one more question
whats the difference between DT comp ss spokes and dt revelation spokes?

ps not a fan of the new wheel building section on merlin doesnt show price until cheakout and even then its not of individual parts

Revolution spokes have thinner middle sections, and are lighter: an XC race spoke.

I've never had any probs with Mrelin, just add up all the bits in the drop downs!

merlins got a new site now. doesnt have price on drop down any more.. and so the revelations would be a better xc am spoke then

I'd stick with standard Comps tbh, unless you must have the lightest.

whats the wieght difference like. not realy a weight weenie but saving weight is always good in my eyes as long as it isnt exspensive

All weights listed on DT site, about 60g per wheel IIRC. But as before, its a racing spoke or for lighter builds - DT Comp or ACI DB are perfect for most applications, and more durable.

couldnt get it to work so just toted it up my self
think im gonna go with mavic 819 ust disks with xt hub and dt comp spokes for £90 which seems reasonable. gonna see what my lbs has in. its always nice to use them instead of the internet if i can.
