Brake pads won't allow rotor back in! (Formula ORO K18s)

Hi. I am trying to fit some new pads to my Oro K18s however they are too 'fat' and so I cannot fit the disc in-between the pads. I have tried pushing the calipers as far back as possible as per the manual but to no avail. Do I just need to let a small amount of oil out of the pump to allow the calipers to be pushed a little further back or do I need to get the whole system bled?

Thanks.

try and get a flat head screwdriver and knowck it in it should move back put dont push it very hard though, if that doesnt work i think they might have to be bled, did you pull the lever while the disc wasn't in? if you did then they need bleeding!

They don't need bleeding, even if you did pull the lever. Just push the pads apart carfully so as not to damage them.

  • Was the brake bled when the pads were low?
  • Like jacktheoc said, just push the pads appart. Callipers are designed to accomodate worn disks and so when the lever is sqeezed and the pads don't hit the disk they are set closer together. If the lever is sqeezed when there is no disk between the pads then the gap between them will be too small to fit the disk back into.

Personally I'd use something a little softer than a screwdriver to do the job. I carry an old crud catcher in my kit bag. The wedge shaped edge is ideal for the job.
