Can't believe these have ducked under my radar till now!!!!

Anyone know anything about them? Any good? Spec of the Acid is way better than similarly priced bikes from mainstream manufacturers.

What do you reckon????? (I'm looking at the Acid by the way)

How much are they, i can't say if they are good or not but they certainly do look nice, i'm sure the forks ain't the greatest though, more opinions needed i think. :D
  • 2008 Acid is £530. I was looking at an 07 Rockhopper Disc, 07 Cindercone or 07 Merlin Malt 1 but the spec on these is way better.

My concern is that spec is only half the story and I want to know if the frames are any good.

German company so its bound to be well engineered, plus the components are very good for the money too. Definately worth trying.

  • Excellent value for the money. Know the importer and he has been invovled in the spec of the UK bikes and he certainly knows his stuff.

Would have no dramas with these bikes.

Forks are ok, but sort of over shadowed by the rest of the kit. A lower spec and a Tora might actually perform better.

I've been working in germany for sometime now. I wouldn't trust them to tie their own shoe laces! All the engineering is done by english over here.

    What do you mean JAME5

I know of some great things that has come out of germany... Like octoberfest... german boobs, and last but not least the VW GTI 16V.

But hey dont know much about their welding and bike making skills.

My questions is this, and start a mass debate if you will ?

How can a german company build a bike with xt equip and full fox for under £1000.00

But then you get RIP OFF GB which cost twice as much to buy a bike here and it comes with half the stuff?

Is this because they know we will pay it, is it because of the tax, is it because we have hit our heads too many times, especially around that corner near that rock were that bump is?

No its because we have all become acustom to Brand names like Kona, Marin Gt ect.

To be honest the parts alone are almost 1000.00 so cant complain.

    Supersonic

Can you show me a link to get a full suss merlin bike for under 1000.00 with xt/lx equip and fox shox or there abouts?

Would love to have a look.

I dont know too much about merlin and wondering if i can use my cycle to work voucher so lame ass halfords can order one in for me.

Merlin don't do full sussers, but the hardtails are astounding.

GT Idrive XCR at Halfords has a great spec for the money, inc an external crank, Recon 351, RS rear shock, XT mech etc.

For a little more the Trek Ex 6 is laoded with good kit

Yeh been keeping an eye on XCR5 but they have told me to wait as they have a new 2008 coming out with juicy brakes and upgrade shocks for about the same price, and in black to boot.

Fingers crossed november december they said

Looks like it will be even better value! That Trek takes some beating too, some really good kit on there, almost all LX gear, not just a couple of pieces.

Hi Partyboy1101,I have had a CUbe Acid for 2 months now.I bought it to replace my 6 year old Marin hawk Hill.It is an excellent bike. As you say, well spec'd for the money compared to the usual bikes. It felt right as soon as I got on it.I find it easier to climb with than the Marin.ON my 18 inch framed bike,This may be down to the shorter rear crank arm (arm from the crank to rear wheel) It is 5cm shorter than the Marin and a shorter arm is supposed to give you a more positive drive. The Hayes 9 discs on mine certainly stop ok but I see the 2008 bikes have shimano discs fitted and even the new shadow XT rear mechs-can't be bad.The smart sam tyres are excellent. They are big and knobbly but the centre ones are flat and slightly treaded so give little rolling resistence so are excellent on road if you give them plenty of air.Forks are fine especially like the poploc on the handlebars for stiffening the shock for road use.I understand from my LBS (velocity cycles Huddersfield ) that the importers have sold all the 2007 bikes as they have been so well received. So if you can get a test ride (website lists dealers) go ahead and buy one overall an excellent solid bike.
  • Thanks everyone for your responses. Janwal, I'm buying mine from Velocity, the last of his 07 bikes so it will be the same spec as yours!

Picking it up this afternoon....watch this space for a full review!!!
