Was texting a female friend this evening and suggested meeting up on sunday but only after my cycle. Her reply "never been second choice to a bicycle before!" to which i replied about doing 50miles last sunday. So according to her my future wife is a lucky girl with stamina like that!

interesting...

What she really means is, that with all those miles in your legs you should have no problems standing at the kitchen sink doing dishes for hours on end

What do I ride? Now that's an Enigma!

It's not by legs that go when stood at the sink but my back. That's my excuse anyway :wink:

Alteratively, 'she must be unlucky to have someone as drowsy as you'.

At least that's what applies in our house.

Girls are ok for certain things but bikes are far more interesting IMO!

Your bike will never do the dirty on you, will never desert you and you ride a bike as much as you want! And it won't complain!

Plus you can have as many bikes as you want and they wont get jealous nor slap you :D
  • I thought I'd try and convince Mrs thebikeliker that I need a new carbon framed bike by demonstrating how light it is by getting her to lift it up. She did and was suitably impressed.

Then she said "Because of course there are many times when you do have to carry it"

And she wasn't even being sarcastic!

    Bless her little cotton socks.

a bike wouldn't go to the pub after work instead of coming home and helping you out with the four kids. however, I'd still prefer to go to bed with my husband.
actually, i think you'd all prefer girls over bikes, thats why there are huge threads devoted to girls in lycra shorts and not huge threads devoted to bike porn.
excuse me little rant, I've just had a couple of glasses of wine with the school mums.
is 570watts high for max power on a 30 mile training run? I think I must have something set up wrong or else I'm the bionic woman.
    night all.

    he he he
it was on a tacx imagic turbo thingy - I'm guessing that the readouts on those things are really inaccurate.

If you were doing v short intervals you might have hit that.
Top pro's can hit out 1000+ watts in a sprint, so 500+ watts for a very short sprint is acheivable, I would check the calibration though... :)

I'm still in shock that someone has actually bought a powermeter!

Go tell the RST guys, it'll make their week! :D

  • As a peak reading, 1000 watts is regularly seen by very ordinary riders - I've just been analysing some data from a local RR and a reading of 1000+ watts was seen on a number of occasions.

Watt for a few seconds you mean  Any longer than that and you'd have to be a good professional to get around 500-600 for a few minutes

    I don't think a Tacx i-magic counts, Nolf!

I think that a power reading from an SRM set up bike might be slightly more reliable than the weeny units that come with turbo trainers (notoriously flaky in my experience). Still, I won't be making a £3,000 investiment in SRM for my bike - I know when I'm working hard - I don't need a digital doofer to tell me

That's what I said - a peak reading - not sustained for more than a few seconds.
