I need a new seatpost clamp I have tried a couple but been really unhappy with both. I want a clamp that clamps tight coz i am a lard a**e but wont seize up as soon as it sees a bit of crud does any one make a weatherproof clamp. 2 I have tried are m-part and hope. The hope looked bling but wouldnt clamp tight .The m-part one clamped tight but seized solid in our beautiful summer weather :(

  • Salsa? Very expensive though. You could try a non-QR. One by a jump manufacturer (identiti?) was reviewed in MBUK or similar for £6.99. Rated highly.
My Hope one is fine though.
    Sorry for the vagueness.

Hi I saw on ebay titanium seat clamp (bolts type, not QR), looks nice and strong and definitely weatherproof. Was sold for appr. 12 pounds.

Function wise allen bolted collars are better, many QR ones start to slip. Try greasing the cam on thwe QR, as it may do up easier.
  • Qr's make it too easy to nick your seat and post for the odd random halfwit that may pass by.

Always had a allen bolt one here, grease the thread of the bolt and a small coat of clear nail varnish on the head, you'll never have a problem.

I dont want a bolt up clamp I'm not bothered about anyone stealing my saddle & post as i dont leave the bike unattended and anyone trying is going to have pick up their teeth with broken hands. there must be a weatherproof QR clamp out there :?

  • I haven't tried a woodman, but there is a (very short) review of a Woodman Death Grip (sounds promising) on this very site, under bikes and gear, components, then seat QR's. They gave it a 4/5. There's a powerplay one on there too.
To be honest, the Orange seat QR I took off my P7 for the Hope one was always pretty rock solid. A more positive action than the Hope.

just buy a hope one and have done, they are great.

Powerplay are rubbish, the one i have just been running couldn't of gripped the seatpost any worse, i feel i am going to take a lighter too it soon as i feel all it is good for is to melt into a useless pile of meltedness.

Salsa are good but the one i had broke so it went in the bin.

    Hope all the way man!

Hope aren't that good. Ok if your seapost and tube are nigh on 100% tolerance. If it slips, allen bolt, problem always solved.

i saw a tip n one of the mags once which seemed pretty handy,

get a very short ength of inner tube, slide it onto the seat post, after the clampis tightened, work the tube down over it and ta da!! wnter proofed as you like (but looks websters)

i'll see if i can do it on my bike and post a pic

i have tried it and reccon it's not too bad:

with a bit of jigging, it's even good enough to cover the rearward facing slot on the seat tube, i wish i had made this idea up in the first place!!

allen bolt is not a good idea if you lower and raise your saddle a lot like i do.

That looks a good idea sheepsteeth nice one, I'll give that one a go. As for Hope clamps they couldnt clamp sh*t onto a blanket. I will say it again I AM NOT INTERESTED IN BOLT UP CLAMPS QR ONLY

thanks, it might not be the pretiest idea but atleast adjusting the clamp doesnt require any tools (with the new sheeps skin?!? i'm gonna see if it catches on) and should stay clean enough to clamp extra tight without seizing up

Can you still operate the QR lever with that piece of tube in place?

The Salsa flip lock is one of the better QR designs.

no you have to roll it down but atleast it will prevent crap getting on to the clamp which means by tightening it an extra bit, you get extra security but the clamp wont seize due to ingress of dirt.

this is easier than having to get a tool to loosen a normal seat post clamp i suppose.

bear in mind, i have never used this idea before and only fitted it this morning to show an idea i read about so it might turn ut to be websters!!

Saw it, tried it. It works. sheepsteeth you should go into production all you need is a pair of scissors I can supply the innertubes I seem to have a pile full of holes, cant seem to throw anything away
