Clicking around crank section? 2 clicks on right side at 1oc

Hello guys, I have some clicking around the crankset location.
Now it could be my right pedal but I'm not sure. It happens ever time I am peddling with a slight amount of power. Only on the right side at 1-2 oclock it clicks twice, once with little power but never more than twice. I can feel it through to my foot, two distinct clicks they sound the same though.
It's been getting worse and now I need to do something about it.
I've read parktools but I want to ask you guys first as I don't find that very useful and also I want to be sure because I do not own a torque wrench.
Thanks ever so much guys. My bike is the Mongoose Tyax Elite just a month and a bit old... :P (No hard riding)

Hi Technex,
IMO it's likely to be either the pedal bearings or your bottom bracket bearings that have worn. As the BB is more difficult, specific and potentially more expensive to replace, I'd try the pedal route first.
If you can borrow a pedal from a mate who knows that his is fine, whip yours off (usually a narrow, 15mm spanner or a 8mm hex key will suffice) and try his. If no more clicking, you need new pedals (if they are cheap ones) or the bearings serviced (probably best done for you if you are a d-i-y newbie) if they are expensive enough to be worth the outlay.
If the clicking continues I'd say that your BB was gone so you'd need to get it off with a special tool (which one depends on make/style of BB) and order an equivalent replacement.
Pay careful attention that you order one that is:
the same shell size (67 or 73mm);
the same axle length (between about 107-125mm);
and, most importantly, the correct fitting type (square taper / octalink / isis).
This info should all be found on the body of the BB, once removed.
Hope that this helps....

Check everything else first.
Pedal bearings,
Chain ring bolts, (should all be tight or chain will not run in straight line, can lead to noise)
Chain ring teeth, (make sure none are damaged)
Crank arm bolts,
Seat post,
Stiff links in chain,
Front mech, (see if chain is catching it at some point)
If i had to guess...I'll wager a loose chain ring bolt or a damaged tooth, seems odd that it's happening in the same place all the time.
One way to narrow it down is to grab the pedal and push hard against the brakes, then try it while holding the crank arm...this might give you an idea where it is.

Okay guys, it's to dark to look at the bike tonight really, but I can double check tomorrow. I've been observing it for a while now so I have a good understanding.
Surely the chain won't be in the same position all the time? The clicking is always in the dead same spot and it's been about 2 weeks now. During that time the chains slipped off twice so it must have moved.
And I've tried locking on the front brake and stepping on the right pedal when it was at 1oclock it still makes the noise, although harder to reproduce like this.
If it is the BB I will be giving Wiggle a call/email I think... Still not happy about the pedal going already! Should I get hold of them? Seems poor for a decent bike...
My last bike the pedals make no noise although it is just a 50-100 pound generic bike but they should still fit? Don't want to do any damage to my new Mongoose cranks etc.
Thanks ever so much guys!Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Elite 2010

No it won't......
But a damaged tooth/loose chainring bolt will be.
Chain slipped off??? Another sign that leads me to think damaged teeth/loose chainring.
Did it slip off front cog or rear cog?
As a point of interest what front chainring are you on? I know some chainsets have middle rings made of cheese.....might be something to look at?Cycle tracks will abound in Utopia. ~H.G. Wells

Nah my front shifter is a little messed. Fixed now. It sometimes went a little to much and pushed the chain over.
Everything is stock on the Mongoose.

Okay guys, it's now 3 clicks and louder on my right pedal. I'm now getting towards 70-80% sure it's the pedal.
Anything else you can think of guys? I once again tried while stationary and pushed down on the pedal at 1oclock I heard it, I then tried pushing down on just the crank arm in the same position, nothing unless it's because I couldn't push as hard but I think I did.Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Elite 2010

Probably pedal bearings - they go quite easily in my experience. I recently knackered an almost brand new V8 by landing the left pedal on a rock. When I spin the pedal it crunches beautifully.
Chuck the pedals in the bin and get new ones. You can get V8s for about 20 quid.0 -
Yeah it's the pedals. Thanks guys. I have a habit of hitting them.
Oh well my muc off bike spray has stopped the clicking for now, but when I spin the pedal the bearings definitely have gone.
I'll get a SPD pedal when it packs up to the next level.Specialized Stumpjumper FSR Elite 2010
