Apologies non Londoners,

I used to cycle approx 3 days a week from Crouch End to Vauxhall but have now moved house and job so will be travelling from Southgate (top of piccadilly line) to London Bridge.

Can anyone recommend a good way to go? i though about the A10 but dont know if it would be too busy or if there are bus lanes going down it and the same for Green Lanes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as i need to get on my bike soon as the tubes and trains are killing me!

Thanks :D

i go through southgate every day :D but i only go to edmonton :( what do you ride? ill look out for you!

im on a dark blue cannondale

ive never cycled into central london from here i go out into hertfordshire for my sunday rides. There is a bus that goes from friern barnet (3miles from southgate) all the way to London bridge its the 43 so maybe look at that route for some idea until you get your bearings.

Also if you need any advice on routes in the areas for training purposes i have some good ones. As well as knowledge of quite a few good bike shops and not so good bikes shops...

Green Lanes has bus lanes as far as Haringey Green Lanes, and then is fine up to Newington Green. It gets a little blocked up through Wood Green High Street by all the buses but other than that it's OK. Going the other way it tends to get backed up from Manor House towards Turnpike Lane. Just take care filtering and you'll be alright. I ride it almost every day but turn off from Newington Green towards Angel, so don't know about down to London Bridge. I haven't rode (ridden?) the A10 in rush hour so don't know what that's like.

  • Thanks for the advice, unfortunately didnt see them till this morning.

Decided to give it a go and went down green lanes (def right about wood green and the buses) and then Southgate road by Newington Green, once there i ended up near the canal just before shoreditch and i knew the way from there. thought it was going to take ages but it took less than an hour! :D

only problem was there didnt seem to be any proper bus lanes on green lanes on the way back

Spasypaddy i ride a red trek mountain bike (think i'll get a road one now with the commute), i know the 43 route very well and it is good apart from having to go up and down Colney Hatch Lane and Muswell Hill the latter looking extrememly steep!

yeah but you could base your route on that until you get to a hilly bit then cut across! I shall keep my eyes open for a red trek then and also make sure i go past you with a cheery hello (i hope...)
