hi
was out riding today when i snaped a spoke on the rear at the nipple end. this is the second time this has happened in a few months. so i called in at lbs. they said its 60p for another spoke at £8 labour. but they guy sujested i get it respoked for £16 labour then price of new better dt spokes. had the wheels 2 years now.
whats the opinion. replace spoke or rebuild the wheel is a
Rear hub : Shimano FH-M475 disc
Spokes : Stainless 14g
Rims : Sun S.O.S. PI
or is it worth getting a whole new wheel.
this isnt something i know alot about as you may tell

if the hub and rim are fine then a rebuild could be good.

or you could upgrade the hub or rim as you will be getting new spokes.

or just get a new wheel?

II'd look closely at the hub too.
  • Have a look at www.merlincycles.co.uk and cost out a similar wheel before you proceed.

RIM UPGRADES: XC717 BLACK DISC +£9
HUB UPGRADES - HUB UPGRADES: XT DISC 6 BOLT+ £13
SPOKE UPGRADES - SPOKE UPGRADES: DT COMP SS DB BLACK +£8

came up with that for £71 about £35 more than it will cost to get respoked.
are they an improvement. my current rear hub is a little rough although still works fine and could just replace the bb.
what is the weight i will save and will they be siilar strenght
thanks for any help you can give

Mmm are you sure you want xc717's as last time you were looking at the XM719 ?

you had better chose the right rim for your riding.

doesnt give all that much information but worked it out by weght
buy looking at specs the 717 isnt big enough for a 2.3 tiyer.
would the xm 817 be worth the upgrade weight and strenght wise. i also noticed they are UST compatible which is something id like to try in the futuer.
