Wet weather MTB road tyres

Must`ve been asked many times before......
BUT having nearly come off today on a wet road with front wheel lock up with P`racer paselas (great tyre otherwise ) can anyone recommend tyres for wet slippy roads? Have thought of Spesh Nimbus or tight spaced knobblies #(eg Houffalize); any thoughts, mud and rain be on its way now here until March!! :roll:

Am I going to kill myself on corners etc during evening fitness road rides on my on-one mtb? not going into traffic busy areas out of town road riding.

Not trying to be funny, but rain at the end of a dry spell makes the roads as slippy as they get, short of ice and snow. You need to ride in a way that makes allowance for the conditions. You do not want any kind of knobblys on a bike when riding on tarmac. Whereas on softer surfaces the lugs dig in and give extra 'bite', on hard & flat surfaces all you are doing is getting less rubber in contact with the road.
Not only that but the rubber you do have is going to move about, making any kind of sharp cornering a total lottery. Braking will just make you skid more easily too and your treads will wear in next to no time anyway.
A decent set of slick tyres (or with minimal patterned tread) designed for road riding will grip better (in all conditions except snow, which is effectively an off-road surface), corner more safely and last for years.

Splasher, No in a straight line just reducing speed for a sharp junction coming up, if I`d been turning / leaning I would have come off for sure . Maybe it`s due to the fact that I had changed tyres rear to front and teh centre was a bit rounded off after 1500 miles use!!!! trying to get every penny out of the tyres0

Schwalbe city jets here. 1.5"
On for the last couple of months, not had a problem yet.
Wet or dry, they just stick.
Got to watch out for white lines, drain covers and diesel spillage on wet roads, there all fatal and to be honest it doesn't matter what tyre you have on, if you hit one of these at an angle, odds on your going down.Cycle tracks will abound in Utopia. ~H.G. Wells

I'll 2nd the City Jets. I'm on my second pair (In 2.5 years! And until recently I was doing a 32-mile round-trip commute) and my mate has just started commuting (2-3 months) and he loves his too.
Good against punctures AND fast rolling (when you have them pumped up between 60-80 PSI) but with enough volume to take the sting out of most road vibrations.
£22-ish on Wiggle for a pair with tubes. Deal!

Over 1000miles now in all weathers, no punctures and no incidents and very fast rolling at 80psi... Great tyres..0 -
I was also looking for road tyres but I didn't like the look of them at first as I felt there should be some more side grip, I'll be riding roads in the countryside sort of, but with your three experiences, I think I'll go for them n see how I get on.0

Half of my daily commute is on Country lanes, no problems whatsoever, even when accidentally going through the occasional pile of cow cr4p....!!0 -

i was running spesh crossroads on my old p7 and they were great. loads of grip and rolled real well when pumped up hard. they had puncture protection which was doucle edged sword, never got a puncture, but they were qute heavy0
