chain ring replacement

I am going to ge my bash guard to the Mr dirt g2 dh. but it will only fit a 42 to 46 toothed chain ring. mine is 34. could i change the chain ring to 42 so it will fit the bash guard ? would this mean id have to change anything else like the size of chain etc? :?: :?: :?: :?: :?:
