I've just got an '07 Scott CR1 Pro frame, but although it has a bearing race on the forks (it was previously a new bike) it doesn't have a headset or compression top cap.

Does anyone know what headset I need, and what should I do about the compression top cap as this is neccessary with the carbon steerer tube?

on mine you have a race above and below. and then on top an anodised gold spacer/wedge and a top seal. there was way less to it than i was thinking there would be. Any compression cap that fits your stem should do fine, the fork has its own 'star nut' put in from scott that the cap will pull on, hope that helps :D , i'm starting to confuse myself now!
Thresholds, 60-80%, HRM's...I'll just go for a ride
  • Thanks, I'll see what I can sort out

Fairly sure a CR1 takes a Campag compatible integrated headset - eg one of these (or of course a Chorus or Record!)
  • Thanks, went for a cheap Ritchey campag style one for now. Im guessing the fork steerer is completely bare except for the enlarged part that the crown race fits onto? My forks look like they already have a bearing race on them (the bike was once built up in the showroom), it's plain black. This is just a crown race the shop has left on by mistake and not meant to be there? Think I'll let a shop take it off!
  • Well one of those Ritchey Drop In headsets came today, it doesn't fit! The bearings don't fit in the frame. So what now?
