Lee as far as i was aware you had an orange fromm '99 and you were looking for a 26" fork that worked with V's.
so where has these 24" XC tryes come from?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Hiya.
Yes i've got a 99 Clockwork, it has 24" wheels on it from new, i'm getting a Tora 302 fork fitted sat, i'm happy with the bike as is, for me at min V-brakes are fine, just wanted Forks to make life easyer riding it.
Tyres, was looking at the tyres and think could do with a new rear tyre, went to look and there all 26", thats where the question came from.
Lee0 -
the tora will not work with 24" wheels if you are using V's.
you have got your sizing mixed up somewhere."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
Parktools :?:SheldonBrown0 -
Not got it mixed up, didn't know. Not being really in the know on these things.
Now your gunna tell me, if i fit 26" wheels the rear Brake will be in the wrong place yeah, lol.
Thanks
Lee0 -
No what i will say is that i do not belive you have 24" wheels on a 99 clockwork orange.
get a picture and prove me wrong."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Ah ok, I hope your right, Thing is on the sticker on the rim it says 24.
is it just a case of getting tape measure out??
Lee0 -
some thing like DM24? by alex rims?
look on the tyre and see what is says on the side."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
Parktools :?:SheldonBrown0 -
Look on the side of the tyres....
The size will be on there.
Usually like this........26 x 2.1
The first number is the wheel size.
The second the tyre width.

Right, 24 on the rim, 26 on the tyres ( Thank God ) 26x44/50.
TOP0 -
NO the rim is a 26. the sticker is just the type eg alex rims DM24 or whatever and has ZERO relationship to the wheel size.
and have a closer look at your tyres as you are still not reading them correctly."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Are they WTB veloci-raptors on there now??
If so, there 1.95" tyres.
Rims should be fine with pretty much any 26" tyre between 1.5 and 2.3.Cycle tracks will abound in Utopia. ~H.G. Wells

LOL, Sorry man, i know you know what your on about, reading your posts.
But on the side wall it says 26x44/50, seems odd having inch and mm on same tyre, the Rim tho is a Speedmaster, tyres is a WTB rapter 44/50
lee0 -
Man how you know that?????
I know my shit on Cars, what tyres came on Y plate RS1600i's etc but on bikes, theres so many more types.0 -
50mm is near as dammit 1.95" (actually it's 1.97", but who's counting?)
Most rims are able to take a wide range of tyre widths, from 1.3" semi slicks for road use right up to 2.3 mud clearing beasties.
The main favourites seem to be in no order of preference, Panracers: Cinders or Fire Xc pro, Schwalbe: Nobby Nic/Racing Ralph combo, Continentals: Vapour or Leader, Michelins: XCR mud or XCR dry and Maxxis High Rollers.
It's really hard to make a recommendation without knowing exactly the conditions your riding in.....hard pack, wet roots, thick mud all ideally need a different tyre compound/tread pattern, but that gets expensive very quickly. The tyres above are generally considered the best all rounders.Cycle tracks will abound in Utopia. ~H.G. Wells

559 x 24 = 26" (wheel diameter) x 0.9" (rim width)

Right,
Thanks for the tyre list i will look into that long and hard, and your maths is top.
That rim is black, mines silver, guess mine may be an older sticker too than that one.
Cheers guys

Looking at the tyres you said last night, the Continentals Vapour looks like best for my area, be fine on the front and the back i'm guessing yeah?
Cheers again.
