Why is it that when we first started cycling we avoided hills like the plague but give it a few months and we actively seek them out?

Are all cyclists masochists :?

Yes.....................apart from the ones that are sadists*

    * - these are easy to spot - they're all the buggers in front of you during a race trying to give you a hard time

I lived and cycled in the Chilterns. I can honestly say I enjoyed slogging up the hills more than bombing down them. Anyone can go down a hill.........

Love the hills - so much better when you are fit as you can enjoy the pain, rather than thinking "I should be going up quicker"

I played 5 aside tonight and as we normally have 3 subs I thought I'd have a game of squash first, then no subs turned up :x Being 43 years of age this was not good news. I'm "enjoying" the pain at the moment and expect worse to gome in the morning

LOL!! No, we are not masochists!! It just that we get the sense of achievement when we get to the top. I'm a Londoner, too, and there are no hills in my commute to work. My first hill "ooop north", I thought I was going to die!! Now, the last bike ride I did up there, I seeked them out!!!

No problem going up hill, but I'm scared sh**less going downhill. :(

"Ooop North" there's no choice; round our way if you want a ride out you have to deal with hills! Usually just at the point when you'd love a bit of flat... Still, you can't beat the feeling of looking at a 'new' hill and thinking "Right, I'm having you"...

I used to hate a certain hill on my way home now I enjoy powering up it

all the hills inclines I now encounter regularly I tend to try and hammer up them
