New road bike! Cheap and cheerful please.

Any ideas for a road bike to supplement my Halfords hack thing that I use for everything else?

I want it for weekend 25/40 mile tarmac rides and weight is not all important (as I could lose a stone myself before worrying about the bike! :D )

You can get a Giant for that. Actually you can get plenty of good bikes for around that amount of money.....Trek, LeMond etc. Have look on the Evans and other websites, and visit your LBS

You can even get a road bike with 105/Tiagra mix from Halfords for £350.

EDIT: I think the Tiagra/105 mix from Halfords is £399, bargain in my opinion, especially if you know how to set it up yourself.

Front dérailleur is Tiagra (mech one up from bottom)

Rear dérailleur is 105 (mech is middle of the shimano range)

Most bikes at that sort of price range have Shimano Sora dérailleurs - these are bottom of the range - but they function perfectly, they are just a bit heavier and clunkier than tiagra/105/ultegra/dura ace etc.

You normally pay a lot more for a bike with 105 and tiagra than the £399 in Halfords. The problem with Halfords is that they don't necessarily get set up correctly by the staff assembling them in store. They are bloody good bikes for the money though.

You can get the bike (in my signature at the bottom) I have from Halfords for about £300. Good bike, but I had to tweak the set up myself a bit.

I'm more than happy with the bike for what I use it for.
