I'm looking to upgrade my HT to a Full Suspension and I have my eye on the Stumpjumper FSR. The dilemma I have is I can get hold of a 2005 S-Works frame with Septune rear shock or should I wait and get a 2006 Pro model with a Brain Fade Rear Shock.
Can anyone explain which is the better rear shock or are they both good as each other. Also what is the difference between an S-works frame and a normal Pro Frame apart from the price.

I would, and did, go for the 2005 model. The 2006 brain fade was supposed to still be a bit "on/off" without a smooth transition. The Septune shock is a great piece of kit anyway.

The difference between the pro and S-works model, on the 05 bike, was the m5 alu on the S-works compared to the M4 stuff used on the Pro. I'm not sure if its applicable to the 06 bikes.

  • What fork are you running on your 2005, I was thinking of getting some Rockshox Revelation for it

I'm using an 05 Float R. Its a really good match. You could make it a bit more aggressive (if that's your thing) and use the newer Float 140s which would be nice. You wont go far wrong with the Revs though. Excellent forks.
