Kona Jake tyres-mudguards

I'm thinking of fitting full size SKS mudguards to my Jake the Snake to use the bike as a winter trainer. What would be the best tyre-mudguard combination? Does anyone know if its possible to squeeze 45mm mudguards in with 28mm tyres or should I go for 25mm tyres and 35mm guards.
Any advice or experience is much appreciated.

sorry to bump this thread, but I just got a Jake and was wondering what combo here would work well.
have not yet changed the stock tyres - will be used for commuting on road/cycle path with some NCN trips, and general family riding etc. so inclined to 32c. comfort over all out speed really is my priority.
is there room for 32 tyres and guards? or would I need to use 28c? It's the base level Jake, not a snake.
What tyre/mudguard combo are you Jake owners using? thanks in advance.0
