    Spen,
When your wife is threatened on the way to the shops because of your job, you may change your opinion slightly.
Mrs Miggins has nothing to worry about because she is not down your street making life intolerable for the local nighbourhood.
Most of the local troublemakers in my area know the score. Generally when they are arrested they go quietly and cause no fuss. Give them an audience or once they are in cuffs and in the back of the van and they know they are "safe" then you watch the behaviour change.
You have to experience it to believe it. May I suggest you approach your local Police service and get a "ride along" one friday or saturday night as a civillian observer and then tell me you haven't changed your mind even just slightly!
    Steve
PS I am in not in favour of "Police Brutality" I have never needed to use my gas or baton in anger in 3 years and the first weapon I use is the power of language.
I can afford to talk softly!....................I carry a big stick!
