What lights

Now the evenings are closing in, can anyone advise on a cheapish set of lights, durable enough for XC and bright enough to safely go single tracks and bridlways in the dark ?
Never gone for lights before, which has limited my pedaling in the winter !
Thanks

I would go for the Cateye EL600 if its just a front light you need

or if a set then Cateye EL530 & LD1100

I would suggest a 1W LED (the CAteye) will not be anywhere near bright enough for unlit bridleways, you need to be looking at 5w LED or 10w Halogen as a minimum - obviously more costly, but do-able under £50: the BLT Metrino as suggested above fits the bill at £46.99. It does weigh nearly a kilo, however, because of the lead acid battery.
The Electron 5w+10w (£44.95) is about half the weight because it has an NiMH battery - but it's a bottle cage one.
Probably the best/cheapest 5w LED is the Dinotte 200L - £99 - it's very small and light, and as it runs on AA batteries you can easily cary spares and extend run time. The battery pack straps underneath the stem.
I have the Dinotte and the Electron, Dinotte wins, but electron is good for the price. Haven't seen the BLT, but battery weight aside, it looks very good.0 -
That Electron is suprisingly heavy - 900g, as its not the most sophistcated of NiMH batteries! But a good alternative to the Metrino.
5w LED or 10W Halogen - couldnt agree more. At least this on your bars, and a head torch too and you are in good shape.0 -

Sorry to be pedantic, the Electron battery weighs 540g, the Smart is over 900g0
