Hollowtech II chainline adjustment

Has anyone managed to tweak the chainline of Hollowtech 2 chainsets to run a triple crankset as a double, or is this a further extension of Shimano's conspiracy agaist bike fettlers?

Looking at this diagram I wonder if by swapping the 3mm spacer and the 6.5mm spacer you would get the desired effect, viz a shift to the left of 3.5 mm

    not tried it but it looks like it would work.

    You might find the non-driveside arm sits too far from the chainstay though. In other words the whole chainset is shifted to the left, as you look down at it.

    Better to get a decent Q factor and symmetrical arms by fitting a double....

    Not quite the same question BUT can I run the above 10 speed Hollowtech chainset on a 9 speed set up.
