I'm looking to invest in my first 'proper' mountain bike and i've almost made up my mind. My budget is £400 max and im looking at either a GT avalanche 2.0 or a Giant Terrago Disc. BUT today someone has offered me a second hand (but good as new) Mongoose Otero Elite 2007 for £350.
Whats a guy to do??? would the Mongoose be a better bike or should i stick to a new hardtail for my budget?
Not sure if i need the full suspension as my off roading won't be anything too dramatic (I don't think!)
cheers

Have you tried the Otero? Its ok for the money - but a shop guarantee, and service may well be worth the extra ie buy new.0

don't do it. they are well rubbish. we sell them and i certainly wouldn't recomend it. someone sell one already tell you something about it. go for one of the hardtails. the only full sus under 700 i could say to buy would be the decathalon or one of the giant trail versions cheapest is 600.internet (in ter net), secret sanctuary of idiots and nutters.0

if i had a £400 budget that would definetely be my choice anyday :!: :!:0 -
No offence Jack, but thats an awful spec! Otjer bikes at this price new, not even in a sale have damped forks and hydro brakes, or 9spd, that has neither!0

how about a 2007 giant xtc 4.5? good frame and good spec alot of people say.

i can see where you are coming from supersonic, but the frame will be super strong and imo it looks very nice, suppose there are better bikes for the money0

Cheers for the advice guys. I think i'll stick with the hardtails then.
Im quite liking the look of that 2007 giant xtc 4.5! could be a winner
If i could get an Avalanche 1.0 2007 for 399 would that be a good contender too?0 -
Both good bikes, but try and try them first.0
