Hi!
I have a Shimano Deore sqaure taper crank and i need to buy a new bb. Can anyone advise me on a good bb? Shimano or not shimano? ?Also i have a bb measurement that is 68mm x 113mm. Would it do any harm if i put in a 68mm x 122mm? Any advice welcome. By the way i'm on a fairly tight budget.
Thanks,

if you are keeping the same cranks then you need a bb of the same dimensions. a 122 will through your chain line well off.
nothing wrong with shimano."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I'm building a bike from scratch, i have no bb at all at the moment and just bought the crank so needed advice on the bb. Cheers0

so what size bb does the crankset need? what are the cranks?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

This is exactly my problem! I don't know what size i need for the crank. The crank is a Shimano Deore Hollowtech 2 FC-M510 square taper.0

Err if it is Hollowtech 2 it is not Square taper.
infact if it is hollow tec anything it is not square taper.
Picture of your actuall cranks please."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

There was an early hollow cranked square taper version:

Something tells it it wasnt a standard BB size, maybe a 116.0 -
oh that thing. or was it the 121mm version. lets go digging."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

May it be ocatlink? ocatas kinda resemble square tapersSpecialized Camber

Cant find the bugger! Remember selling them though, and that axle length rings some alarm bells.0

Aha, Sheldon has it as 110-113mm, so my huch was wrong lol.0

shimano only has it listed as a octalink set up. or at least the M510 cranks on their webby are."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Mmm it was available with either octalink or Square taper

but as sonic said if it is the square taper 113mm is good."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
