Deda Newton 31 Stems

As far as I can tell all stem and handlebar manufactures apart from Deda quote a centre diameter of 31.8mm for their "oversize" stems and bars.

Deda however quote 31.7mm.

Has anyone ever fitted a pair of oversize non Deda bars in a Deda stem? And if so has anything unpleasant happened as a consequence?

I want to fit a pair of ITM bars in a Deda Stem because the Deda is the only stem that comes in the size I need - 80mm with reversible graphics so it can be used "up side down".

I had planned to use the new USE Race stem which comes in 80mm and 31.8, looks good and is British. But unfortunately 31.8’s are currently not available and USE have no idea when they will be available. Very disappointing.

Thanks

Roger

  • Deda 31.7 bars work with 31.8 stems and likewise 31.8 bars work wiht 31.7 deda stems.

it's a strange piece of marketing by deda to scare people into buying both.

Not tried it but 0.1mm will be fine

Easton EA50s also come in 80mm, see CRC

    Thomson X2 come in 70 and 90?

They're all 31.75 (1 1/4 inches) - just that Deda truncates whilst everybody else rounds.
