I am trying to source an outlet for bottom brackets made by censored Germany. I am looking at putting it in a Raleigh Twenty apparently it works and they do that sort of thing to older bikes in Holland my web searching has got me zilch!

    censored is actually a bearing maker like SKF.

    Need some more help.

    I am looking for a 73mm with plastic cups both ends.

    Anyone?

    Peejay i have a Mercian Strada Special, the Bob Jackson and now the folder all incomplete.

    My Carlton is the only thing keeping me going.

    The Raleigh Twenty will be okay. At least it will be a fixed folder.

    Bottom Bracket

    The bottom bracket threading on Raleigh Twentys is Raleigh's proprietary 26 tpi size. The shells are also rather wider than standard, approximately 76 mm. If you wish to upgrade a Raleigh Twenty for modern cotterless cranks, you have 3 options:

    * Have the bottom bracket shell re-threaded to take an ISO standard 24 tpi bottom bracket. This works, but the threads are not terribly strong, because the diameter is the same, so there will be some missing threads. (The shells are not thick enough to tap out to the larger Italian size.)

    * Re-use the original 26 tpi cups with a long cotterless axle. "7" series bottom bracket axles are made to work with 73 mm "oversized" shells, and some of them can be made to work in the Raleigh cups.

    * Use a cartridge bottom bracket with Phil Wood 26 tpi retaining rings. I'm told that it is possible to use Shimano UN72 bottom-bracket cartridges with the Phil Wood rings, if a Phil Wood bottom bracket is beyond your budget.

    If you order a Phil bottom bracket for a Twenty, you should be careful to order a long-barrel bracket (made for a 71-75 mm BB shell), or tightening down the mounting rings may not be possible.

    you have a fleet!

    it's so easy to accumulate isn't it? i have the bob jackson (god i love it), the fuji and the condor acciao. i can't bring myself to get rid of the fuji, i'm even preparing to 'lend' it to a friend so i can clear space but get it back afterwards.

    Yeah I agree Peejay. I also own a couple of Colnagos and a Dawes Galaxy which is a real work horse I was thinking of doing a Shimergo, Campy Centaur 10 speed levers running an 8 speed Shimano set up.

    I've got a couple of original Claud Butler frames, a bilaminate from the 40's and a lugless from very early 50's. An Ephgrave and a Wearwell track frame. A No.1 Condor track frame which needs new ends from the 50's and i think a PT Stallard. And an unknown 50's bike equipped with very old Campy Gran Sport 5 speed derailleur and Gran Sport Pedals.

    I was thinking of getting a Dawes Kingpin but I don't think they are as strong as the Twenty?

    So might stick with the Twenty.

    I want them all and then see others that I appreciate and have to stop myself. Might sell off the vintage stuff. I have fixed hubs from the early 50's still in the packaging.

    I am reluctant though and started out by coverting just one spare bike. Watch out Peejay you might get bitten.

    Yep but you need to replace everything with light components.They weigh in at something like 40 - 50 lbs in their original state.

    funnily enough, there was one in my LBS today parked out back, i lifted it up and weighed a TON. thhen i came back and read your response.

    I will do a Sheldon of sorts but perhaps leave the stock colour or go for something dark. Would add pic but don't know how you do it?

    find the URL, it ends in .jpg

    the photo needs to be on a website, either flickr or some other.

    then click the Img tag, then paste the URL, then click Img again. it should work.

    for example, this is a URL: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1140/131 ... a81477.jpg

    you can get the URL by right clicking on the image and clicking "copy image location".
