Planning on getting my first full sus and need peoples opinions

Generally will be doing XC trail riding such as 3-4 hour rides in the surrey hills. Want a bike that can climb OK, handle some rocky decents and isn't too heavy.

Really like the look of the 2008 Fuel EX 8.
Anyone got any opinions on this?
Am I wasting money getting the latest model and missing out on last year discounts?
Any similar bikes I should consider?

Will obviously test ride before buying

The 2008 range of Trek's EX bikes have got some pretty major updates over the 2007 stuff. I'd probably go with that for the reasons of longevity. Lovely looking things too.

Obv you should be test riding when you're spending that kind of cash. Specialized Stumpjumpers, Orange 5s, Cannondale Rush, Scott MC etc etc. So many bikes to have a look at. You wont go far wrong with the EX8 though!
    S-works Stumpjumper FSR

I'll see you at the end.

You'll see me on the floor.
  • Cool, thanks for the tips.

What about the 130mm suspension on the Fox forks? Worried that this might be a bit too plush for my normal smooth single track and might reduce the direct feeling. Would it be worth (or possible) to get my LBS to change them for the Fox forks that are adjustable to lower travel standard on the EX9? I'd obviosly pay any difference in price
