Merida Matts TFS 700-D

Looking to replace my old Marin Palisade that has a steel frame and ridge forks with something a bit more modern. Thinking of buying a Merida Matts TFS 700-D, mostly ride xcontry trails with a mixture of off road thrown in for variety. The bike appears to be well put together with a nice frame and with the exception of the forks is reasonably specked (and fits into to my £500 - £700 budget ). Sitting on the bike in the shop it feels good but unfortunately I have not been able to locate a dealer in the North West who has a demo bike for me to actually try. Not been able to locate any reviews either, anyone out there actually ride one of these or any experience of them?
Grateful for any info or advice.

I dont think its very well specced for that price band. Fork while ok, is simply outclassed by Toras you often find, and the hubs, crank and bottom bracket are lowly too. Steep geometry too: a must test.0
