How often do u change your chain rings?

if the chain is not jumping on the rings there is no need to bother. i've never replaced a chainring except to alter the gearing and some I've run some for donkey's years.0

Have the teeth stopped looking like teeth and started looking like shark fins? If yes, change your rings. You may find that the outer ring is okay but the inner ring isn't simply because you use it more.
Hope this helpsCrash 'n Burn, Peel 'n Chew

I got carried away once lambasting somebody who'd sold me a Second-hand Shimano chainring. It looked like it was badly "hooked". I felt a complete cretin when I compared it with a new one - it was very much unworn, although a few scuff marks on the inner face made it look a bit used. (Sorry Dave - I've never forgotten that. I hope you have.)
One dodge I usually employ is to move the chainring round every so often to even out the wear in the teeth - they wear more depending on the relative positions of the cranks. Not too easy with the latest outer rings with a peg on it to stop the chain dropping down, but even there I've sometimes drilled a new hole, bashed out the peg and re-riveted it in the new position.
I usually get about three years out of a chainring - winter bike does have some protection around iit, but it gets hammered in the road pooh. Better bikes tend to wear at about the same rate because I'm usually riding them a good bit harder!0
