Mudguards on trek 1200

I have a nice set of SKS mudguards to fit to my trek 1200, and the rear goes on perfectly, however the front one is too wide for the space between the bontrager carbon fork legs. The legs squeeze it in slightly and rub it against the tyre.
If I start cutting a little of the guard back until it fits without rubbing, will the guard be weaker and flimsy?
Anyone done this or recommend a set of guards that will fit straight on? I can stick these ones on my missus genesis day02 bike.

i'm not sure why you can't get this to fit. i have a trek 2000 and can fit the front guard fine. it's takes a bit of fiddling but can be done. at the very worst see if your lbs will fit it for a VERY small fee. keep going!Only the meek get pinched. The bold survive.0

Is it not a really tight fit in where the fork and guard meet?
Perhaps the older trek 1200 came with slimmer forks? Don't suppose you could take a couple of pictures for me so I can see your set up?

Actually - perhaps I have the 45mm version and not the 35mm version after looking at the options available on wiggle

Had the same problem with my wife's Trek 1000, it was a very tight squeeze on the front forks, and that was with the 35mm sks. I trimmed the edges of the mudguard away, have not had a problem with it being too flimsy, so don't worry about trimming it down.0
