Just seen the Tesco Direct catalogue with some bikes in! Cant imagine why I would want to race one of their lightweight racers, not when it ways 30lbs nearly! Ugly too......What would you do with one? :?

How many 'racers' are raced anyway ? I seriously doubt that they are out for the club cyclist market.
  • Hope they're not made by their shopping trolley manufacturers or they will only be good for going around small circuits. :)

I thought the flat-barred road bike was reasonably good value but the road bike was somewhat over-priced considering what you can get from Decathlon or Revolution for the same money.Noticed in the same catelogue that Tesco sell Lamborghini Hybrid bikes. Are they really made by/for the same sports car manufacturer does anyone know?

Kinda looks like a Lambo badge....!! And I'm fairly sure that the Lamborghini name would be protected so maybe they are....

Ok here goes, Tonino Lamborghini is the son of Ferruccio Lamborghini ( founder )

Ferruccio Lamborghini died in Perugia in 1993 at age 76. His son Tonino designs a series of designer clothing and accesories under his full name.

    There ends today lesson :D

  • They make tractors though, wonder if they carry the decals?? :( :?
  • I think Lamborghini started out making tractors, didn't they? The legend as I heard it was that Ferruccio branched out into cars after buying a Ferrari and deciding he could do better!

    Spot on.
My dad used to farm and one of his tractors was a Lamborghini.
We used to joke with our mates that our dad drives a lambo and we would pop round and let them have a spin in it some time!
They would have been a bit disappointed with the 25mph to speed. Impressive torque though!
    Still thinking!

So can you get a Lambo tractor out of Tescos then?

Probably not in my nearest branch, where their "sophisticated" customer profiling has reduced what is on offer to aisles and aisles of white bread, carbonated sugar drink, crisps and cheap tinned lager.

No wonder Scotland has the health record it has, if these profit-driven megalomaniacs can't tell a lowest common demoninator from genuine customer choice.

And another thing! They've put all the petrol stations for 15 miles around me out of business so that when my car had a slow puncture the other day and their "free air" (gee! thanks) was out of order, I had to spend hours with a foot pump limping to the tyre centre.

Can't say I'm completely convinced it's wrong either.

    cheap lager - mmmmmm

petrol - dont buy supermarket petrol, it'll shaft your engine

felafal- I once asked a Tecso shelf stacker where the felafal was, cos it wasn't where it used to be, the look of bewilderment I got was priceless, "felafal" "eh""whits that""dunno"

There was a batch of contaminated petrol supplied to Tesco and Morrisons in the South-East a while back, ironically by a "green" petrol company, but other than that it's pretty much the same stuff that comes out any other pump. The additives vary a bit, but that's it.

There are plenty of good arguments for boycotting supermarkets in general and Tesco in particular, but I don't think that's one of them.

Not that I care that much, not having a car.

  • "the additives vary a bit"

exactly, its the additives that lubricate and clean the engine, buy petrol with half the additives missing and your engine wont last.

I'll stick to major brand petrol thanks.

Depends how long you keep your cars for surely ? Our car prob does 20k a year and the engine was still fine 5 years down the line when we were looking to just get a newer car.

If you are gonna run the car for a few good years, then yeah additives may be worth it, but I've not seen any proof of this ?

The additives will also vary from one major brand to another. Some engines may like certain blends better than others but it's not much to do with where you buy it from - I used to have a VFR750 which ran fine on anything but Jet or Esso, ran like a bag of *expletive* if I had to put either of those in for some reason.

    Is supermarket petrol different?

As I said, there are plenty of other reasons to avoid supermarkets - the squeezing out of other local retailers being one of the biggest. I don't think we need to fall out over this one.

  • I switched from petrol to real ale years ago so I missed out on the additives problem, my engine seems fine on this -- oh and a bit of pasta now and again to add variety.
  • I unfortunately work for Tescos and I agree they're numpties. I asked if they would join the cycle to work scheme and after emailing various people got a reply from a 'corporate responsibility somebody' and was told that having trialled the scheme in two stores they had very little interest from staff and so would not be joining the scheme. Oh well so much for Tesco's green credentials. As they're always blooming reminding us say "every little helps*.. not!! I shop at Sainsburys!

Tesco are going to pay for Everton's new stadium (hopefully), so they can't be all that bad.

When that picture was taken everything was packed in really tight, nothing moved, so couldn't hear it. I've taken out the plastic tyre levers now and for the past few days it has been rattling a bit, need to sort that out.
