Hi guys,

I was looking into getting a new stem to improve fixing at the bar. I'm struggling to make sense of the differnet angles the manufactures state.

I currently have 7 degrees, so was looking for somthing similar as i like the position, just not convinced by only 2 mounting bolts at the bar.

Once stem i found states 6 degrees, thats fine, but the ritchey one i really like states 84degrees??

Now i found a stem that says 80 degrees +-10 degrees

So does that mean the ritchey is 84 degrees +- 8 degrees??

Just applying simple maths, probably a mile off so any help would be greatly apreciated

linkies to said stems as i think there is a few typos somewhere.

ie dont think they will be a 80 or an 84 degree stem.

    I was looking here:

Its cool though Nick, a bit more trawling of the net at employers cost uprooted more info, turns out 84 = +/- 6 degrees, ( I still aint worked that one out :P

tech sheet makes it as clear as mud.

it is a 6 degree stem.

    either +6 or -6.

ie a 6 dehree rise or a 6 degree drop.

    84 +6 = 90

I dont know bout the 84 degrees part but generally if a stem is said to +/- degrees it means it can be flipped over to give a higher or lower reach.

Yeah, i got that bit, just the original website stated 84deg, i had never seen that before.

Regarding the stem, it looks the bollocks, so im gonna plump for the seatpost too for maximum carbonage :P

  • It depends where you're measuring the angle from.

From horizontal, the rise is 6 degrees. From vertical its an 84 degree angle. Picture a graph with an x and y axis with a straight line 6 degrees up from the horizontal x axis. From the vertical (y) axis the angle to the same line would measure 84 degrees.

    Like Nick said............84+6=90
