I saw some carbon fibre mudguards on a Cannondale Synapse at the weekend. They fitted between the brake calipers and the wheel very neatly and didn't need any lugs on the forks or seat stays. I didn't manage to ask the rider where he got them. Does anyone know who supplies these? Thanks.

  • Hi spasypaddy....No they weren't race blades, I've got some of those. These were full length carbon mudguards, they looked very well made, and looked expensive. They fitted very close to the tyre and fitted snugly between the frame and the wheel. They're the only full guards I've seen that would suit a road bike with little space between calipers or frame and wheel.

I haven't got the link but I think they are French - Giles Berthoud, IIRC

Edit - Here you go, search under "Fenders". they'll take all major credit cards, kidneys and first born....

  • Thanks Langerdan. They look like the ones. As I thought, they're expensive at 140 euros, but they do look extremely well made. I'll have to start saving for a set.

Another (much cheaper) option are the Salmon Super Profil aluminium guards that were standard kit on close clearance frames for years. They can be got with a variety of fittings for attaching to bikes without mudguard eyes.
