I have been offered some wheels with commencal hubs, Sun rims (DS2+XC), sram cassette, Formula oro rotors and Maxxix Larsen tyres for £50. All brand new came straight off bike.

I know this is a good deal just for the tyres, rotors and casstte but are the rims and hubs any good?

Ask the seller why they are selling them and you may get your answer.

  • So, you don't have a clue then splasher?
  • Sounds like they might have come from a Meta 5.5.2 - might we worth checking they are not knicked at that price.

Funkydung: first port of call is always to ask the seller about the product. Splasher gave you good advice, don't throw it back in his face.

Enquire about the build quality of the wheel - thats most important of all.

    hot hot hot?

but as you have allready said it is a bargain for the
    tyres, rotors and casstte
so the rest is a bonus.

  • I was not throwing it back in his face just asked a question and got a stupid answer, all I would like to know is are the hubs and rims any good.
If you ask anyone selling something, they will tell you it's good!!!
    Thanks for any help.

I'll have them off him for £50 - put me in touch!
  • Yes, they are fine, perhaps not XT/Hope and EN321 but you are well getting your moneys worth. Suspiciously so.

You didn't get a stupid answer, you just don't recognise good advice when you get it. He's selling them because he doesn't want them and he doesn't want them because they're nicked or they're no good. Either way, armed with the facts you can decide whether you want to handle stolen goods or ride sh!te wheels.

    Up to you.

What and that's it. You wouldn't think to say "well if they're so good, why are you selling them?" and keep going until you get a credible reason or you come to the conclusion that it's knock off.

You don't work in civil service procurement by chance?

  • I did ask the seller about the wheels, he reckons they are ok, I just wanted some other opinions?
Oh and they are not stolen, the seller had a better set of wheels and took these off when he bought the bike (which I have seen, so no BS either)
Apologies if I have upset you Splasher, did not mean to. (I take it you think the wheels are Sh!t by your reply)

You didn't upset me, you'll have to try harder than that  but I did think you were a bit out of order.

Anyway, I don't think they're sh!te wheels, they're middle of the road but a bargain at the price with all the other stuff thrown in. My advice was to try to understand the motivation of the seller. It could have been anything and at that price the only correct answer would have been that he's doing you a favour. Now you've established that, you should be able to buy with confidence.
