removing crank

ive stripped the dust cover thread on my crank so i cant attach a crank extractor-is there any way i can get the crank off?

its a shimano octalink

    could be fun.

    put the bolt back in a few turns and then ride around the local area and the crank should come lose. The bolt is there just to stop it falling off totally while you are on it.

    please note that you may damage the crank doing this if you continue riding too much with it lose.

    you could also try a 2 or 3 leged bearing puller. a decent mechanics shop should have one. But as you are hoping to reuse the arm i guess you are not really wanting to spend any/much money.

  • just done 50 miles with the crank nuts loose and the bassads are still as tight as fupp!

    i'm going to have to get nasty with them!! :twisted:
