Good luck to anyone doing this. Please can you tell us about it when you return?

I did the Etape de Legende. It was a great event with perfect weather.Warm but not too hot. The scenery was absolutly stunning and it was great cycling on clear roads with only 2000 other riders. The whole thing was a lot more relaxed than the main Etape.
The course was actually a lot harder than i expected.Apart from the first 40k you were either climbing or descending the whole time. I was expecting a lot of rolling terrain but one of the hills had a 5k section with an average gradident of 9% which sapped the legs and the Ballon d'Alsace climb was 9k at 7%. All in all a very enjoyable weekend.0 -
I also did L'Etape de Légende on Sunday. Excellent day out, perfect weather, as Statts said stunning scenery. The whole thing was very well organised. The spectators were great, I spent pretty much the last 50km on my own, and the spectators cheered me on as if I was leading the race, I can dream.
It was a pity that only 2000 odd entered, but that did clear the roads a bit, especially after the first climb. The penultimate hill was the killer, it must have been closser to 8 or 9 km and varied between 8 and 12% according to my bike comp.
I was pleased with my time, but with hindsight I should have paced myself better and stuck with the pack rather than sailing past them towards the end.
Great day out, I've definitely caught the bug now.0 -
Alain and statts, there's also a thread about the Etape in the Road Rides forum.0
