I have an Alivio Crankset but I want a crankset with top chainring of at least 44T. Which crankset should I buy and which other parts should I change?

indeedy, but this assume the Alivo chainset is bolted together and not rivetted as most 'cheaper' chainset are...not sure on this myself.

Why spend money for the sake of it....

When you've done this you'll probably need to move the front mech up the seat tube to accommodate the bigger chainring.

alivio has been standard 104 bcd bolted from at least '98 to current.
