This saturday (22nd(i know its short notice...)) will mark the first in a yearly event aimed at getting as many people as possible to ride around Sheffield on their bicycles, trikes, skateboards and any other form of emmisson free transport. There are no strict rules or regulations just to feel free to use the roads safely in the city as you are suppose to.
It has recently been studied that the amount of bicycle accidents actually decreases with greater numbers of cyclists... So we need the numbers! (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6998086.stm)
This is strictly not a political statement, we just want to encourage more people to use their bicycles for all the beneficial reasons; keeping fit, reducing pollution in the city and saving a bit of money
As a guide we have set up a meeting point outside the town hall at 2pm and will then be making our way up to west st -> broco bank -> hunters bar/ecclesall rd and finally to the botanical gardens. You dont have to follow this route but we think its quite nice, easy route that families can take part in and not worry too much about traffic. At the end you can have a sit down in the gardens or disperse where ever and continue enjoying your day on yoru bike
If you could read the flyer below for more information and also visit the links. More information, including safety tips should be on the site in the next day or so...
