Shimano Saints and a Bashguard

Hi, the problem I have is this;
I have just bought shimano saint cranks and bb M800 along with an e.13 SRS with bashguard. I was looking at trying to fit the bashguard but (maybe I'm being naive here) can't seem to figure it out as the bashguard is supposed to go between the chainring and the crank but the chainring is attatched to the crank and i can't see any way of taking it off. Have I bought the wrong thing? How can I resolve this (if possible at all)?
Cheers

Put it over the crankarm, and down onto the outside of the spider. You'll need longer chainring bolts to acommodate it though.It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.0
