External BB's

Will modern external BB's fit with older 80's frames, I am debating whether to replace cranks on my good bike (FSA mega Exo) and shift the kit over onto my singlepeed 1980's Peugeot?

Am I planning something that is just a lost cause or have the majority of dementions of BB shells/threads stayed pretty constant over the years?

    yes

    on a steel, painted frame you are advised to get the shell 'faced' to ensure the BB cups are perfectly parallel. Your LBS should be able to do this for a few quid.

    Obviously, if the shell has Italian threads then you'd need cups to suit.
