i currently have shimano sora 8spd on my winter bike, and am wanting to put 105 10spd on it!

hpwever, i was wondering, will my campag vento wheels take a 10spd cassette, even though i only run 8 spd at the mo?

thanks

If it's an 8 speed freehub, I'm afraid not because the spline pattern is different between Campag 8 and 9/10 speed. Try giving Italian Cycle products a call to see if there is a 9 speed freehub available for your wheel - you are then going to have to get a Campag 10 cassette e.g. Mirage or Veloce with seperate sprockets and find some Shimano 10 speed spacers for it - try Highpath Engineering.

No no, do not listen to this man. Campagnolo make wheels with Shimano compatible freehubs as well. If you are currently running an 8sp Shimano cassette then a 10sp Shimano cassette will fit on just fine. The new cassette will come with a small spacer which must be fitted before the cassette, make sure you take off the larger spacer which will be behind your current cassette.

Actually, Monty Dog is a pretty good bet, but I think he missed it this time. He might be thinking of the old skool super hot Vento from the Shamal era. If you have a Shimano freehub, you can fit 7/8/9/10 cassettes on it. Not that you should. 10 speed is overkill for a winter bike really, and the chains don't last as long as the 8 speed ones do, and you can't buy the excellent sram ones with the good quick link. Sitck to 8 atmo :)
    Or enjoy the upgrade!

OK, should have clarified if the guy was running a Shimano freehub - if he was then 10 speed will be OK. But if it's an old Vento with an 8 speed Campag freehub, previous posts still stands.
