Campag braking noise

My new bike (Cinelli Man Machine frame) is running Campag Centaur brakes and Eurus wheels. From new (now 400 miles) front brake makes a racket under braking (metallic rubbing sound like the pads are running over ridges in the wheel) - I usually get a similar noise riding dirty wet roads on any bike but this one does it in dry. There is no metal contact, I've cleaned out dust etc so nothing in the pads; I've changed the wheels from two 'silent' old bikes and the noise is the same - so it must be the pad material or set up (toe-in/out).....any ideas or set up tips or do I need to break it in longer (sic)...

Try 'dressing' the pads by running a file across them to remove the glazed surface. As you've also identified, try looking at pad alignment e.g. toe-in. I run mine dead square to get maximum 'bite'Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

I don't know these rims of which you speak, so I don't know if these are of the same type that have ridges where the two metals arcs are joined together. Apparently some rims do and this is *A Bad Thing* and will result in this kind of metallic scraping noise unless you file down the ridges with some fine wet and dry - over time I guess this would happen naturally anyway - via braking. I also agree that you might want to check the pad alignment - not just the 'toe-in', but also whether the pads are making contact with the middle of the side of the rims and not over shooting onto the non-braking surface. Jjust another thought - they are the right type of pads for alu rims aren't they?0

Sounds like the rim join: my Centaur brakes are silent on my Mavic SUP (braking surface machined after welding) rim, but make a thunk, thunk, thunk as the join passes on my Campag Zondas.0

People are'nt reading your post properly are they Paul?
As you have used your 'silent' rims with this set up it and still get the same noise it would seem that you have some dodgy pads.
Can only suggest you change the pads.
P.S
Have you checked that the central pivot bolt is tight and square into the fork crown?0 -
I recently changed the pads that came with my bike as they were noisey and seemed to be disintegrating and leaving gunk all over the rim. I was cleaning the rim after every ride and getting really hacked off.
Got some green swiss stops and am very impressed - quiet, smooth and good stopping power.0
