I've got an old Stumpjumper hardtail circa 01
it is a nice frame & I love the bike but the front fork is knackered & I fancy upgrading
I don't do a lot of mountain biking so don't need anything too fancy or expensive
I have no idea what geometry / travel etc my frame is corrected for? And to be honest the range of options is just bewildering
Would be very grateful for any recommendations or indeed pointers on what I should be looking for
Many thanks

but a 80mm travel RS Tora should do you."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Thanks
my current fork has V's but I have no problem upgrading to disks
travel - I have no idea. Could measure it I suppose but I would be surprised if it as much as 80mm
I will be able to get a pic in a day or tworoad0 -
Upgrading to discs will require new wheels unless you've upgraded them already and bought disc hubs."Internet Forums - an amazing world where outright falsehoods become cyber-facts with a few witty key taps and a carefully placed emoticon."0

Here's some pics of my antique stumpy. I'm getting new wheels as the back one is knackered anyway

Looks like a 80mm Manitou SX fork. I'd look at a RS Reba to do the frame justice.0

Great fork for the money. But must upgrade to a disc brake with that version.0

RS Reba would be my first choice if I had the money to spend, but as you admit your not using it a huge amount (for MTB'ing) maybe something cheaper would be a better option.
RockShox Tora's might not be the lightest fork available but are an excellent fork, you can get version with lockouts which are always useful. They come in U-turn 85 to 130mm travel, or can be manually set to 85/100 or 130mm (actually I not quite sure on this) travel, so would be ideal for your older bike (probably running at 85mm) to keep the handling sweet.
Maybe an 85mm version of the Marzocchi MX series otherwise, but they tend to have a longer crown to axle height they can be a bit long for older bikes. These though are bomb proof forks that will last for years with minimal servicing.0
