KONA SCRAP or GT buying advice

Hi all, im a newby at MTB's and whilst trying to get my head around what bike to buy a friend as offered me his KONA SCRAP(06) for £150. Now mostly i'll be doing trails with no serious stunts or off roading(not yet anyways) My question is, should i buy this bike or go for a brand new GT 3.0 for £270 as im pretty clueless as to wether the Scrap will serve me well for what i want it to do.

The GT I think.

The scrap is a dirt jump bike, will in all likelyhood be far heavier than the GT which is if its the aggressor or the avalanche will be a designed for XC bike.

Both are nice bikes, the scrap at that price if it's a good example is a steal, but I wouldn't have thought it would be suitable for what you want to do with it.

But as always, I stand to be corrected.

Thanks for that, the scraps in decent condition, a few light scrapes here and there but like you said, it's a matter of suitability. I'm looking at as many alternatives as possible at the moment and would prefer a new bike when all said.

The GT Avalanche 3.0 is on offer at my local shop but are their any others i should be considering, the guy in the shop showed me a Schwinn for similar money(£270) with disc breaks, but im not really sure if the bike is anygood.

hey man - dont mean to be intrusive but that sounds like a very cheap price for the kona. its a bit of a long shot but do you live in london. cos ive just had my scrap 06 stolen from my garage and just thought might be a little co-incincidental. do you know the guy who has offered it to you? sure its not the same but always worth checking!!!!
