Anyone ridden out on the 08 Specialized Stumpys yet? I'm looking to buy one as my first full suss and, having tried a trek, recklon I'm going to plump for one. But not sure about the cop, elite or expert.
Would love to get some feedback from anyone who has taken them up to the Stanes or Afan.
Cheers

Got my 08 pro. Magic. Yet to get on a long ride but what I've done so far I'm stoked.

You need to have a ride though. Depends what you want you want to spend. I liked the expert/ pro best as I think the brains great.

Dont buy any other than the FSR Pro unless you want people pointing at you going "ewwwwww"

I certainly agree with that. The paint jobs of the lower end models are certainly an aquired taste

  • You could of course try something a little more European and sophisticated....a Commencal Meta 5 for example....

I wasnt too keen on the frame at first as i felt it looked abit girly but in the Black colour of the Pro it looks great, In the other models hideous colours it does look alot more like a womans bike, especially the FSR Comp.

£2000 is a lot of money!!!!!

An 07 high model may cost half that! Justa point to note before u part with all that cash.

I must admit though, in your shoes i'd prolly go for 08 too, gotta keep up with the times
  • you're right L60. it's a bloody fortune, but you get advice from one place, try to check it out and get a load more and before you know it you're getting another mortgage.
essentially, though, the fact that they've changed the positioning of the shock to take it awayu from being battered by debris from the back wheel seems to be a significant improvment ... unless you know different

The 08 stumpys will no doubt ride like a dream purely because the frame design is so similar to the 07 Enduro which was a highly rated bike.

  • I've just had a look at the 08 Stumpys in Evans and they are georgous, I wasn't convinced by the photo's but in the flesh they are loverly, looks like I will be ordering my Elite from my LBS in the next couple of days.

Thats very true but sometimes it comes down to that, I have always been impressed with the reviews and rider feedback of the stumpjumpers, but many people commented on the look of the 08's, i for one was not impressed by the pic's i had seen but having now seen them in the flesh think they look good.
  • There are loads of bikes out there most of them all have the same high specs each other, Have you considered an 07 enduro expert or even an 08. It could save you about 300 to 400 quid on an unused last seasons model, and gives you an extra inch or so in travel, personally i like the enduro as its almost the same as the stumpy, but incase you fancy a moment of madness you can let yourself go on a downhill or catch some big air and not worry about your bb bottoming out.

What about a yeti or santa cruz, marin attack trail or similar.

at the end of the day, trying out these bikes could take an age. Pop yourself to the earls court cycle show on the 12-14th oct, you can get to ride most of the best brands and maybe save some cash in the process, thats what intend to do but my favourite lies with yours also....... the stumpy! but to be sure im checking out the bikes at the show.

    good luck.
