Race Face Investment

Thinking off investing in a Atlas AM Stem, and a ATLAS AM Alloy Low Riser for my Carrera Fury, any thoughts on these, both made by RACE FACE. Thought about dropping a few hints for Christmas, but how do you drop these into conversation with a partner who knows nothing about MTBing. Then again she sometimes reads these over my shoulder as I type, LOVE YOU MY SWEET  . You never know.
Where'd that bloody Deer appear from?

ha ha sucking up there just in case i know how you feel.
Anyway after a ride you just say.
"phew that was a good ride but that stem is just not working for my type of riding/is making my back hurt"
"Hey you know what I could do with for christmas?"
"What?"
"A couple of things actually, a Raceface Atlas AM Stem, and an Raceface Atlas AM Alloy Low Riser, the ones I've got suck/are broken and I love these exact ones, everyone raves about them. I'll get you what you want too, no no not that porsche you've talked about - something sensible"
Don't bother with hints make it clear those are the ones you want. hint and you'll get something nearly the same but not quite there, "but its a bike stem isn't it?" "yes but brand-x from CRC don't match up to the beauty, design and general quality of the raceface range"0 -
If you're not dead set on an Atlas one then Wiggle have Prodigy stems at dirt cheap prices http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetail.a ... 0OE%20Stem0

If you are sneaky put them on a wishlist and email to all the people in your address book. You never know you may get a couple and you could always flog the excess stock and make a few quid...
I often find that its best to buy the stuff myself then get the cash or another 'gift' in its place. This way you can be sure of getting the right thing...
Aternatively, rumage in your partners purse and locate a credit card........................0 -
I think its too much for an XC bike. I'd be looking at the lighter stuff.0

its not about the cost really, time to "bling" up the bike, but with the right gear that'll lastWhere'd that bloody Deer appear from?

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but what are the pro's and con's between the Atlas AM and the Evolve XC components?0

Evolve is the budget range, not quite as well made as the Atlas. But to me, a stem is a stem, and the expensive ones offer little performance benefit over the budget ones, except maybe a few grams in weight shaved off. And even then, they can be heavier. I use a Kooka Race stem - 126g, beautifully machined, 20 quid.0

good question, damned if I know  as much as I hate to admit it, go more on looks sometimes, as long as it ideal for XC and will fit on bike fine by me. Usually rely on experts like Supersonic to guide me in right directionWhere'd that bloody Deer appear from?
