Is this normal?

Have got a new bike with an internal cartridge on the headset. Being new to mountain biking I'm trying to get to know the bike as much as possible so that maintaining it is not so much of an issue.
I'm a bit concerned that when I apply the front disc brake fully when stationary and push the bike forward and back there is movement of the front end that doesnt feel right. With closer inspection it seems to be rocking slightly where the front forks meet the cartridge, there is visible movement there. Is it supposed to move there at all?
I've had it under a week and did not think to tighten this area of the bike myself, putting my trust in the bike shop. Have taken it out for a few decent rides but nothing too punishing. Just trying to find out if it is worth taking it in to the shop before I take it out again

please make your topic heading better. and post in the correct section.
this looks like a tech question?
heading could be play in the headset how do i fix it?
or fork seems to be moving in the headset?
new bike take it back as it has been poorly set up. or readjust the headset. read parktools on how to."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

bah, I answered this in the tech forum then it was locked:Loosen up the stem on the steerer tube end, this will allow it to move up and down. Tighten the top allen key nut on the top of the steerer tube which will pull it all down a bit, not too tight though just to stop the play. Straighten and tighten up your stem. Hold the brakes and rock the bike forward, if there is any play you know you needed to do it a bit harder
If the forks movement is now a bit restricted (it won't be in your case since it's new) the headset is lacking in grease and/or worn down.
It's not too rare after a week of riding, once fixed it'll be ok for months.
Park tools probably have a guide, they don't give me any money though so I'm not going to mention them (bahaha).
As mentioned, the bike shop will fix it if you take it in, it's only a 2 min job though.
that's what I was about to say, pfft0
