Recommend a rear wheel?

Hello all,
Seems my rear wheel gave up and bit the dust earlier so I'm looking for a replacement. I'm pretty new (re-born) to bking and I'm riding my old £240 store bought bike which I dusted off after deciding to lose weight (see Health and Fitness forum).
I'm not looking for anything too expensive as I'm still a newb! But need something that can hold my 21 stone frame without folding like paper.
My old one was a generic 26" that houses a 7 speed cog.
Any suggestions would be great!
Cheers all!

Hello BoredHousewife,
Yeah I looked at that but wondered if it was any good. I'd be happy to go for that one if it seems okay.0 -
to be honest its not a great wheel, it depends where you're riding though. For a cheapy bike thats only being used for fitness i'd iexpect that this wheel would be fine.
If you are riding proper off road trails i'd look at Merlin Cycles and build something to suit your riding, other people on the forum should be able to advise you better on the various rims/hubs available and what they're suitable for0 -
Not at all, the most offroad I get at the moment is along the canal!
I may go for it.
Thanks a lot!0 -
i would definitely expect it to survive a canal path, oh, and it has a new cassette on too which should save you a job.
Anyway, glad to be of assistance......... and don't blame me if it all goes wrong0 -
WAIT!!!!!
I've just had a look and its a bolt through axle, check that your existing wheel is too or this will not be compatible.0 -

all i see is a standard nutted axel."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Bolt through? WTF? I have a standard nutted axel. I think
lol.
I'll prob take a trip to the bike shop tomorrow actually just incase.0 -
sorry, wrong terminology but the axle wouldn't work in a qr drop out anyway would it? aren't they bigger?0
-
I'm lost here! Too much techo talk for a beginner! I best just visit the shop I think lol just incase.0

Sorry, thats my fault. In my haste to avert a possible error I used the wrong term for the axle. I'm used to quick releases being the standard and 'forgot' about the old nutted axle :oops:0

Nutted axles can be the same size as QR, and often are.
I'd measure the width of your dropouts first - may be 130mm rather than the newer 135mm standard.0
