I am rebuilding a Dawes Super Galaxy frame and I have a question about routing the rear brake cable. The brake cable runs inside the top tube of the frame and I would like to know the following: should I run the outer cable through the top tube or should I cut it leaving only the inner cable to run through the the top tube leaving the outer cable on both ends?

You need to run the outer cable through the frame otherwise your rear brake won't work - the brake cable need to work agains the outer to exert a pull on the caliper - as there are no fixed stops inside the frame - no brake!
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • you may find it easier to thread the outer with the inner already poking out the end - it will be easier to fish the inner out the hole at the end of the top tube.
