Hopefully sometime this month I will be getting a Kona Kula, or something very similar!!

I will have to keep the bike in the garage. At the moment, the garage door is pathetic, you could pop the door out of the runners very easily.

I was thinking of buying a decent lock for the garage and an alarm, preferably one with a siren that I can put inside the house, also its got to be wireless.

I was thinking of getting a Garage Defender:

Luckily it won't look out of place and draw added attention to the garage, as 5 of our neighbours have them too.

This is the garage alarm I was looking at:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=260159830443&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=016
It has a PIR sensor and a door sensor and keyfob. All of it works on radio frequencies to transmit to the base unit, which will be in the house.

I was wondering what everyone thinks? £100 for bike/garage security, is it worth it.. Is there a cheaper alternative? I'm always a fan of cheaper alternatives!!

I'm planning to get one of these from Aldi on Sunday... http://www.aldi.co.uk/sunday_special_bu ... 57989.html

As for the other security - I had a similar problem as my bike insurance is pretty strict on where it's kept. In the end though rather than get new garage door locks (garage has a rear entrance to garden to) or barrier device like you pictured I went with a ground anchor + chain instead. Cost me £150 which was the cheapest/quickest option at the time, planning to sort out better door locks in future still though as I have plenty of tools etc. in the garage now as well.

Wow, that remote controlled PIR alarm is pretty cheap!

I'm not sure it would suit me though. My garage is about 10 metres from the house, therefore I want an external alarm for inside the house, so I can hear the alarm from inside the house.

I use a ground anchor and a big chain. Ive got an alarm too but to be honest i dont think you will ever stop them taking your bike if they want it. all you can do is slowthem down.

ok, from the back wall of our garage it goes Bikes, MGB roadster (classic not rover crap), draftsmans table, door with 2 padlocks then when i'm home my car is parked touching the doors.
night times and when the house is empty (days etc) there are ensors ont the door and movement sensors linked to the monitored alarm system.

Planning application for the moat and pirannahs is pending

That ground anchor for £150 sounds really expensive. I'm getting one made by my Father as he is a tool maker 8)

Just bear in mind if you have specialist cycle insurance the terms and conditions might not cover a homemade lock/anchor device.

I would hardly ever use my bike if it was behind all that..! Moving two cars and a drawing table, so you can nip up the shops.. I'd end up using the car or walking!

I'm going to check with my insurance company and see what their requirements are.
