Looking for my first full sus bike. Evans have these comps at the same price.
I don't think the frame has changed much, so I guess I won't be able to spot much difference in a car park test ride.
But maybe someone has an opinion on the components?

I'll also be trying last year's Gary Fisher Hi Fi Deluxe, which is only £100 more.
Or should I save £100 and go with the base fsr xc?

Thanks.

The 07 seems a little better specced to me, better fork for sure. XC comp for 08 seems similar to the XC for 07
  • I've been looking at these as well and I've noticed something. It seems that the 2008 is the direct replacement for the 2007 FSR XC (standard) and the 2007 comp has been replaced by in 2008 by the Expert. The RRP on the 07 comp is over £1000! So, what I'm trying to figure out and it should be relatively easy if I can be bothered to compare the specs, is whether in fact, the 2007 FSR XC Comp is better equipped than the 2008 or whether they've just dropped the standard varsion off the bottom of the range!

I think they look like very nice bikes for the money though. Interestingly, What Mountain Bike Mag rated the FSR XC 2007 as the best sub £1000 full susser!

I'll be interested to hear what you end up buying and how you get on with it!

This name game is not uncommon - makes people think they are getting a better bike! Best to go on ride and spec than name.
  • Just had a quick look and it seems that the 2008 comp is in fact the direct replacement for the 2007 standard.

For instance, the 2008 Comp has Rock Shox Tora forks like the 07 Standard. The 08 Expert is more similarly specced to the 07 Comp.

So in conclusion I'd say that getting the 07 Comp for the same price as the 08 would be a good move. I'll certainly be looking for some 07 bargains when I get round to buying but I'm worried that there won't be anything left by December!
