Hi,
Can you use energy drinks in Camelbaks ? If so what do you recommend, I get fed up with just water

yes you can. it just means slightly better cleaning is required."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I have been using this for a while: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetail.a ... 525g%20Jar
But I have just got some of this which seems better:

As Nick said, just make sure your cleaning procedure is good. Plus it depends on how you rate energy drinks in the taste department. I find they're OK but they don't quench your thirst like plain water does.0 -
I tend to put a small amount of tescos value lemon in as i don't like drinking plain water.....then give it a good clean out afterwards!0

Hi all

I am contemplating a hydration pack, & obviously Camelbak is the market leader. But I came across this one from Gelert.
Does anyone use one of these or have any experience of one. The sales spiel is quite impressive, but is it all bull***t?
Any feedback would be gratefully received.
Cheers0 -
I'd be a sheep and buy a camelbak, 10 gazillion bikers cant all be wrong0

I believe Mr Toast has that model - it's generally good, but you have to close the valve every single time, otherwise it drips on your leg.0 -
You can get same bag in Motor World and I think there is a shop in just about every town.

The bag is bomb proof with good quality zips and laughs at some of the top brand names (as the bladder is made by one of them) for £15 you can not go wrong.
Halfords sell the same one under the bikehut name for £29 but is a Gelert without the badge.
It is the ideal size bag for a days ride and will serve you for many years.0 -
If there's a Decathlon near you i'd highly recommend this

perfect size and is going strong after 8 months of use
tend to use water in it and have Energy drink in my bottle for when i have a breather2011 Genesis Equilibrium 10 (black frame) | 2011 Tricross Sport | 2008 Carrera Fury0 -

This is identical to the Bikehut one that i have....done me ok so far, fiddly to dry out with out putting something in to soak up the liquid. oh and I lost the bite valve on trip 2 (somewhere in dalby- any one seen it?)

I've heard that the Camelbak Mule is the favourite amongst bikers but does this realistically hold a days worth of stuff needed for a cross country hack?0

I find the a mule great bag. It's got room for spares, tool, wallet, phone, camera, etc. and a lightweight waterproof which I pack in an old mac in a sack bag, but I you want to carry a proper coat it's probably a little on the small side.'08 Stumpjumper FSR Pro

Yeah, that's the fella, very good value. Worth noting it's actually the EXACT same as the Halfords Bikehut one, just rebranded. Well made bag, no problems so far with the bladder, not much storage but similar size to the old Lobos, enough for keys, multitool, pump, a few bananas etc. The only catch is the valve, I keep it locked out when riding and have now got quite adept at flicking it across when drinking, my buddy with a Camelbak just leaves his open the whole way. It can also FIRE violently when you squeeze it if its locked yet has water in the resevoir bizarrely, I've now mastered this art though and it's as much a selling point as a problem.0 -

I have to say, if you can afford it, get something better than Geler. I've been buying Gelert stuff for years, but to be hoinest, I've been getting more and more dissapointed in the brand as time passes.
I used to have a Gelert hydration rucksack, which seemed very well made, but in no time at all, the straps started fraying, the stitching started to give, the zips were leaking, the back support-thing bent (making it very uncomfortable) etc
Also, the valve never really sealed properly, and got progressively worse on each ride - until it got to the point, that the valve leaked more water (whilst in the "off" position) than I actually managed to drink whilst riding.
I've also had Gelert shoes and boots, which simply reinforced my preference for Salomon footwear.
I'd say Gelert stuff is fine if you're just starting out, or if you're in desperate need and it's all that's available, but I wouldn't buy it out of choice anymore.0 -
I have the Camelbak Mayhem, bigger version of the Mule, also great for communting as well as days out biking.
In the UK it £69, I got it in the US for £38 (crazy UK mark up again!!)0
